Recently I was visiting a friend and he had a clear Christmas ball on his Christmas tree with a small salmon fly inside of it. He said it had been given to him as a gift and suggested that I do the same. I have a large family so this immediately seemed like a great idea to me. I already had all of the materials that were needed except for the Christmas balls.
Of course I planned to tie my patterns on tube flies for a couple of reasons. The first reason being that I thoroughly enjoy tying on tubes, the second being that tying on a tube would allow me to tie a large pattern and still fit the tube fly inside the top of the Christmas ball because there is no hook to worry about getting in the way.
I liked how this particular tube fly turned out. It reminds of an actual Christmas tree. I call it a Christmas Tree Fly.
